When you come into the house of God, there is an atmosphere that comes inside of you and leaves with you. – Dr. Neville McDonald
GHCC is a community who Give Hope and Heal People. We exist to bring the good news to individuals touching hearts and minds with the power of a very real God. We gather to encounter God’s presence, experience His glory and expect to begin our own personal revival.
We want to see every person: Saved, Healed, Set Free, Discipled, Equipped, Empowered and Service in accordance with Luke 4:18-19 which says,
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”
Pastors Neville & Wendy McDonald are the founders and lead pastors of Good Hope Christian Centre based in Ottery, Cape Town. They served under Dr. Fred Roberts, founder of Durban Christian Centre and Pastor Wendy’s father. In 1984, they were sent by Dr. Fred to the city of Cape Town to start a church. They packed up their little car and their two small children and began a journey with a vision to change the world.
Since then, they have established five campuses across the Western Cape and in 1999 the Healing Word campus in California was brought into the GHCC family of churches.
Pastor Wendy founded Girlfriends and S.H.O.E.S. (Supernaturally Helping Others Excel Stylishly) to empower women in reaching their God given purpose while making a difference in their sphere of influence. Her ministry is highlighted by powerful Biblical teaching, personal ministry and prophetic impartation.
Pastor Neville serves the church with the anointing of an apostle and remains committed to preaching the Gospel of Jesus, winning the lost at any cost and walking with an expectation of the mighty and miraculous power of the Holy Spirit to heal, restore and give the hope of Jesus and all He accomplished on and through the cross.
Drs. Fred and Nellie have served as oversight for Drs. Neville and Wendy McDonald and the ministry of GHCC. Their ministry has left an indelible mark upon our pastors lives as well as ours through the mandate on their lives to “Win the Lost at Any Cost” and to “Create a House of Prayer for All Nations”.
In honouring their legacy, here is some of their incredible history. Read the full article from Joy Magazine here.
Dr. Fred answered the call of God and left behind the love of his life, Nellie, to sail from Durban to Britain where he studied at the Assemblies of God College.
He returned and he at Nellie married and together set off to pioneer a church in Livingstone, Zambia (then Northern Rhodesia).
They moved to Estcourt, where they built up a strong congregation. During this time they were given land to build a church on. Later on, a school and an orphanage were established.
The Lord sent them to Durban and they accepted a call to pastor a church in Malvern, one of the southern suburbs of Durban. They began with a small group of adults and a Sunday school. This location became one of the denomination’s flagship churches in the country under his direction.
There was a greater vision that God had put in Drs. Fred and Nellie’s hearts and the left their denomination to launch out on their own. After successful services were held in the Playhouse Theatre and Embassy Theatre, the Lyric Theatre was purchased as a permanent place of worship for the new Durban Christian Centre.
Christian Fellowship International was founded and built a network of over 200 churches locally and overseas.
The church expanded to Kwa Mashu and a building was purchased for this congregation.
The first Jesus Convention was established and a relatively unknown American preacher Benny Hinn was invited to speak.
Dr. Fred was awarded Doctorate of Divinity from Christian International Seminary, Phoenix, USA.
The Lyric Theatre became too small and was sold. The Alhambra theatre was bought and refurbished as the new headquarters of the Christian Centre. This was the first time the concept of a “Christian Centre” had been used in South Africa.
Durban Christian Centre again expanded and purchased ground in Mayville to build on. The Jesus Dome commenced construction.
The new 5,500 seater auditorium was dedicated to the Lord. Known as the Jesus Dome, which has become a feature of the city of Durban.
The church expanded again buying land in Phoenix for a new campus.
A new Bible College and Youth Centre were dedicated, adding to the facilities at the Jesus Dome complex.
